Banana remains on the island

Mo-o-o-m!

Miyoko and Michael were on the island until the afternoon, but in the end Banana did not come out. Miyoko couldn't understand why stubbornly Banana didn't come out.

He should know that Miyoko and Michael are on the island. Isn't he happy to see the familiar faces?  Doesn't he think that he can get tasty food when you see Miyoko?  Miyoko was confused and annoyed. When leaving the island, Miyoko turned up all the visible shells, leaves, and other things that could hold water. Shethought that those objects might collect waterand Banana would be able to drink from it.

On their way back to Leo's island, Michaeldecided to drop the anchor, and catch fish for dinner.  Michael is good at catching fish with a spear gun, just by diving in the water with googles and flippers. Michael swims around, observes the seafloor.  When he thinks there are fish, he goes straight into the water like a seal. Michael aims for big and delicious fish. Many small, colorful tropical fish swim, but they really not good to eat.  Eatable fish should be at least 12 inches long but they arenot everywhere. Michael gradually moved away from the canoe, swimming and diving repeatedly.

Miyoko is not good at catching fish, but she loves snorkeling and diving, and is very good at it.  She swam and dived around the canoe while Michael was trying to catch fish at a distance. Many sea creatures have poisonous stingers, so Miyoko wore gloves. She also swam wearing a long-sleeved shirt preventing further sunburn.  When Miyoko got tired of swimming, she climbed back into the canoe and took a nap.

The white sands of the island with Banana look like just white lines when viewed from thecanoe. Miyoko imagined that Banana might have come out in the middle of an empty sandy beach by now, sitting neatly and looking at a canoe moored offshore. "Banana, you may die if you do not come back to me" Miyoko said in her heart to a distant Banana. It's too sad to let Banana die alone on a tiny island. Miyoko decided that she should go back to the island again tomorrow. As the days go by, Banana would be hungrier and more likely to come out of the jungle.

The canoe had fishing equipment, but nothing to create for bait. Miyoko decided to leave the securing of dinner to Michael.

When the sun was low in the west sky, Michael finally returned to the canoe. Miyoko wore her shirt over her head, lay down on the bottom of a narrow canoe, and was tired of waiting. Suddenly, Michael's wet and shiny face came out on the side of the canoe. "Hi, Miyoko!"   By Michael’s voice, Miyoko turned over and put her chin on the side of the canoe. Michael is as black as his hair with suntan, and only his laughing teeth look white. Michael is pulling a long rope tied around his waist. Eventually, three fish that had been passed through the rope appeared at the end of the rope. Three fish were; one, very delicious for sashimi, and two, exquisite fish for barbecue. This can be called a big harvest. Miyoko stretched her neck and was completely happy to see the fish in the water.

"This is amazing. They are big and look delicious!"

"Yeah, they are just the right size, aren’t they?"

Michael threw the fish into the canoe with a thud. There are sharks in the tropical sea. Theymay be attracted to the smell of dead fish.Palauans use long ropes connected to to keep the caught fish as far away from your body as possible. Michael boarded the canoe and the two began paddling toward Leo's island. Miyoko was exhausted because the two spent all day swimming and burned in the sun. When paddling a canoe with a tired body, Leo's island felt incredibly far away. Miyoko's soft hands were blisteredwhen she went to look for Banana in the morning.  The blisters broke on her way home.

After arriving at Leo’s island and pulling the canoe to the back of the beach, the two hurried up and prepared for the bonfire while there was still sunlight. They have to collect the hulls of old coconuts. The outer skin of the dried coconuts burn very well and keeps the fire going.

There are many palm trees on the island, so the old fruits have fallen all around. While Michael was busy running around and preparing for the bonfire, Miyoko cleaned the fish forsashimi, and prepared a barbecue. The two worked in a hurry, but the sun went down in the middle of preparation. They couldn't afford to watch the sunset. That night, they set at a bonfire on the beach and had a very delicious sashimi and grilled fish supper. It was a moonless night, but the sky was full of stars, as bright as the moon. There are so many stars that it is difficult to find Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, which are familiar in Japan. The flow of the Milky Way looked outstandingly white and beautiful. Shooting stars fall here and there like a disappearing firecracker.

The starry sky of Palau is gorgeous. Stars have colors and twinkle. The colors of the starslook like neon in the sky clearly red or blue. Some stars shine while changing colors to yellow and green. Can Banana see the stars? Miyoko looked for the golden star, thinking of Banana’s eyes. Banana’s eye might be hidden somewhere in the constellation of the sky and might be staring at Miyoko.
